Serum

Draw blood in a plain, red-top tube(s).  (Serum gel tube is not acceptable.) Spin down and send 3 mL of serum refrigerated.

Note:       1. Indicate serum on report form.

                2. Label specimen appropriately (serum).

             

Plasma

Draw blood in a lavender-top (EDTA) tube(s). (Plasma gel tube is not acceptable.) Spin down and send 3 mL of EDTA plasma refrigerated.

Note:    1. Indicate plasma on report form.

            2. Label specimen appropriately (plasma). 

Specimen Minimum Volume Defines the amount of sample necessary to provide a clinically relevant result as determined by the Testing Laboratory
